The reigning world champion found further improvement in his brand-new RB19 to set a 1m32.837 and retain top spot in the second session on the first day of running at Sakhir. Verstappen, who is looking to become just the fifth driver in F1 history to win three consecutive world championships, completed a mammoth 157 laps as he outpaced new Aston Martin recruit Alonso by just 0.029s.
