Hamilton was denied a record-breaking eighth world title after Max Verstappen, on fresh soft trees, overtook him on the final lap of Sunday’s race to clinch both the race victory and world championship following a contentious Safety Car restart procedure. And that was worthy of winning the world championship. “We will be working through the events over the next weeks and months. I think as a racer his heart will say ‘I need to continue’ because he’s at the peak of his game. “But we have to overcome the pain that was caused upon him on Sunday, also because he is a man with clear values and it’s difficult to understand that that happened.””5Wolff confirmed Hamilton had been part of the decision to drop the appeal and said he has remained in “daily dialogue” with the 36-year-old ever since Sunday’s finale. “I am in a daily dialogue with him but also respect that there is not a lot to talk about at the moment,” Wolff said. “Each of us copes in their own way with the feelings that we have at the moment.
